A Parrot named Gem

I feel bad we haven't taken any pictures lately, our blog has been completely pictureless. Hopefully I will get some pictures this week.

We have a little parrot at our house and her name is Gem. Last week while Tyler and I were playing Mario, Gem was playing with us. She shared in our emotions on all the hard levels, and Tyler and I were reminded that there are some things it isn't as cute for a little girl to say. For example, when I would die, I would utter "dang it!" and then Gem would repeat much louder and more enthusiastic "DANG IT!". Then Tyler would look at me like I was a sinner. But I got my recompense because when Tyler died he said "crappy" to which Gem replied "CRAPPY!!!". Needless to say mommy and daddy had to practice replacing our previous terms with the much gentler "oh man!"

The other day I decided I should do my once weekly exercise so I threw an aerobics video on the TV, and attempted to follow along as much as my pregnant body would allow. Well my very observant daughter noticed that all of the work out instructor ladies' tummies were there in full view. As she put it, "that's a her tummy". So I tried to give her a little mini lesson on modesty. I tried to explain we don't show people our tummies. So for the rest of the day I heard over and over and over "momma, we a cover we tummies". This is particularly awkward as not all my pajama shirts stretch all the way over my new tummy. J/K

church news

When Tyler was called to his new calling we met with a member of the stake presidency, he spent about an hour with us generally explaining the duties that would go with the calling. Well one of the duties was to be to all of the youth activities. As he said that I thought to myself "umm we have a problem" because as the young women's president I had to be to all of the youth activities. So we had a little bit of a major problem, especially with the baby coming. Luckily, though, the new bishop had already thought of that and he assured me that he would be relaxing my duties soon. Well this Sunday I was released as the young women's president. While it was tons of fun to be with the young women, I feel so much lighter with that heavy weight off my shoulders, and I wish the new young women's president the best of luck. And on the same day I got a fun new calling. I am now the 1st counselor in the primary, I got set apart on Sunday and I will be starting next week. I am excited to be in there with the kids, and to get to sing all the primary songs. I am going to load all the songs for this years primary program onto my ipod tomorrow so Gem and I can learn all the words. I am also excited because Gem will be coming into primary in January and I will be in there with her to see how she handles it. The other fun thing was that Tyler got to set me apart, which may or may not happen ever again.

Hail to the Princess!

This song is from the start of "Sleeping Beauty" for those of you who don't know it I will translate for you:

Hail to the King! Hail to the Queen!

Hail to the Princess Aurora!

Hail Aurora! (da da da da) Hail Aurora! (da da da da)

Health to the Princess, Wealth to the Princess,

Long live the Princess Aurora!

I think it is pretty hilarious how she sings this song. And she sings it a lot. She marches around the house and sings it over and over. Today at the grocery store she was following me around singing it at the top of her lungs.

Gemisms

Here are a couple funny ones that Gem whipped out this week.

She was looking at the cover of the conference ensign we just got. If you haven't seen it, it has a picture of President Monson standing by his wife, Frances. Anyways Gem looks at it and says "What's that? A great-grandma?"

We were sitting at dinner the other day and Gem declares "Daddy you a exagog on you a shirt?" And lo-and-behold there was a hexagon on Tyler's shirt, what kind of two year old knows what a hexagon is?

Sad Story

There has been a death on my patio. Probably no one out there will care as much as I do, but over the weekend I lost my mini rose plant. :( I was watering the roses the other day and I noticed some orange dust on the bottom of the leaves of our main rose. Well I didn't know what it was so I had to google it. And it turns out my roses had rose rust. I was naive of this dreaded fungus because it can't grown in Utah, because the spores of the fungus can't survive over 85 degrees. So Tyler and I had to cut out three quarters of my main rose, about half of my rose tree, and the mini rose wasn't salvagable and had to be dug out. I now know that I need to keep my rose leaves dry, by keeping them pruned out so there can be plenty of air circulation, and not watering in the late afternoon/evening. Who knew that roses can get rusty?

Tyler

So I thought maybe my friends out in Utah would be interested to know. Tyler has been given a pretty big responsibility last weekend. He was made 1st councilor in the bishopric. I am still kind of getting used to the idea. Sometimes I wish Tyler wasn't quite so good at everything he does, so he could be home more with me. Oh well, I guess I shouldn't complain about having a great guy for a husband.

Grandma and Grandpa

We all had lots of fun with Grandma and Grandpa Ross visiting for the weekend. Gem loved reading stories with Grandma and kicking the ball around with Grandpa.
Of course it wouldn't be a weekend with Grandma and Grandpa without a couple presents. Gem loves her new bike, and she can kind of pedal it, and we all love the pretty blue church dress.
