Pictures of Gem

So the local paper did a party in the park a few weeks ago.  And I saw that some "characters" were going to be there, and I thought to myself I bet the kids would like that.  But it was a Friday evening and me and the little kids were so fried by then that we couldn't handle waiting in the line.  So Levi and June and I just played on the playground, but Gem got to meet some fun people.

Tuesday was the first day of 2nd grade for Gem.  I couldn't escape buying her new shoes, when she went to put on her shoes from last year her feet could barely squeeze into her old shoes and they were basically bulging.  But luckily Costco came through for us and they had these awesome Sketchers for $20.  I am such a cheapwad, she didn't get any new clothes, and she loves her hand me down back pack from her uncle.  I hope she never realizes that other people go "school shopping" because that will be a sad day for her.  In other news though I think she really likes 2nd grade, but we are having a bit of a time adjusting to our new schedule of getting on the bus at 7:25 and then me teaching piano after school.  She is having to do her jobs and homework on her own, and get up to an alarm.  So as you can imagine, she and I are at constant odds.  Hopefully routine will settle in soon.  It is difficult for me to be patient in the morning because I know she could get all her jobs done before school if she didn't act like a turtle.  But she is a turtle and I will only drive myself crazy if I try to change her.

Here are the other kids they also needed their picture taken after Gem.  We go out and watch until the bus comes in the morning, at least until winter comes.

Kidisms

So here are two funny "kidisms" from this week.

June at breakfast one day.  I was pouring cereal I think or making toast, and she was sitting at the table. Basically these were her first words of the day that day.  "Let's pretend I have a boyfriend."  Umm, how about let's just eat our breakfast.

Levi has been watching Batman cartoons on the Netflix. So now he often refers to himself as Batman but in the third person.  Such as "Batman will get his shoes."  or whatever.  Well I was getting gas and he was sitting in his booster and he said in a gravelly Batman voice "Relax everybody I'm here".  Except then his cape fell off and he switched to high pitched four year old voice "cape alert, cape alert".  He quickly reattached his cape and then gravelly repeated "Relax everybody I'm here."

Levi's Birthday

So Levi has been 4 for a few weeks now.  And he is basically a crazy person.  These are two pics from his birthday.  He is now obsessed with his clothing and being batman.  He has 3 batman shirts that he rotates between, and on laundry day he cries, because I make him put them all in the wash.  I think it is very un hero like to be so concerned about your wardrobe.

Gem's Birthday

Yes a month ago it was Gem's birthday.  She is seven years old and will be starting 2nd grade at the bigger school this year.  (In Willard kindergarten and 1st grade go to their own school).
You can see she decorated her own cake (besides the words).

For her birthday she wanted to go to a museum.  So I took her and a friend and June and Levi to the Discovery Museum in Salt Lake.  It is fun, but too expensive to be an all the time occurrence.  Everyone loved the grocery store section in the little "town".  Gem checked out quite a few customers at the register.  And June and Levi loved getting groceries.

Here they are at a section of the farm.  They are very very slowly sending produce down the June powered conveyor belt to the basket, which then gets transferred to a truck which goes to the grocery store.  On a side note, which farm exactly has pineapples and corn?

Another thing they loved was the lifeflight helicopter that they could explore.  It was right next to an "emergency room" where they could check on their patients including xrays and MRI's.
