adventures

Our first adventure is Gem playing pool with her uncle as you can see she mostly missed.

Our second adventure isn't really an adventure it is just funny to watch.

And our last adventure is the snow which we haven't had too much of yet, just a small sprinkling so far.

Big News

Alright so it's not the best picture ever, but we finally went to the doctor and made sure we actually were having a baby. I am basically done with the first trimester, which means I am not too sick anymore (Hooray!). And we finally have a due date of June 22. Which fits right in with everyone's birthday at our house except mine.

On other fronts Levi is five months old as of Sunday. He still loves to jump, but sometimes we leave him in there too long as you can see from this video.

Lyrics of the Day

Elf's Lament (See a video here)
by Barenaked Ladies

I'm a man of reason and they say, "'Tis the season to be jolly"
But it's folly when you volley for position
Never in existence has there been such a resistance
To ideas meant to free us, if you could see us, then you'd listen
Toiling through the ages, making toys on garnished wages
There's no union, we're only through when we outdo the competition

I make toys but I've got aspirations
Make some noise, use your imagination
Girls and boys, before you wish for what you wish for
There's a list for who's been
Naughty or nice but consider the price to an elf

. . . . . .

You look at yourself you're an elf
And the shelf is just filled with dissappointing memories
Trends come and go and your friends want to know
Why you aren't just happy making crappy little gizmos
Every kid knows they'll just throw this stuff away.

We're used to repitition, so we drew up a petition
We the undersigned feel undermined, let's redefine "Employment"
We know that we've got leverage, so we'll hand the fat man a beverage
And sit back while we attack the utter lack of our enjoyment
It may be tough to swallow, but our threats are far from hollow
He may thunder but if he blunders, he may wonder where the toys went

Gem

I have been very negligent of the blog lately, I promise it will only be for another week or so. But until then I have a couple funny things Gem has been doing lately.

This morning Gem was singing "Follow the Prophet" over and over and over and over. When she asked me what I was doing I told her I was cleaning up, which led her to sing a new version of the song which goes "Follow the prophet, clean up, follow the prophet, clean up, follow the prophet, clean up," and so forth and so on. It didn't follow the tune very well but Gem didn't seem to mind.

Last night in the car Gem informed us that she can't work. In her words "I too small to work".

She writes her name now. Kind of. She can write all the letters but she places them at random on the paper. She doesn't realize that the order matters at all, so she will often write her name starting with M and then E and then G, or whatever order she decides on that time.

She tests our knowledge of spelling, she asks me words she already knows, just to make sure I know them. For example every time we see a stop sign she asks me if it says "stop" or "go". I always tell her she already knows what it says, but that just makes her mad. She will also write Mom, Dad, and Levi if I tell her the letters, but again she just places the letters at random on the page. She knows all the sounds all the letters make, but hasn't made the connection yet of how to put the letters together to make words. And she often tells me what letter different words start with. "D for dad, J for juice, Z for zebra, G for Gem, S for stop, and so on and on and on".

She is getting some imagination, she will play with the play dough for a while at a time. And she now makes five or six different things, including snakes, balls, snowballs, pancakes, and other circular items. Though once she made a pig face, and the other day she was making fishes. Or she will sing the muffin man song and make muffins. She loves to paint and I like it when she paints because she will do it forever, I could give her the watercolors at lunch time and she would paint until dinner time. I also like watercolors because they don't stain anything.

Last night we found her like this, somehow she rolled off the bed without waking up, and then rolled under the bed. It boggles my brain.

Blog Post?

I feel like I should post something. I let the entire second half of November go by without posting anything. So here goes a post about, well, whatever, I haven't decided yet.

We spent a week out in Utah during Thanksgiving. And I was so sick the whole time, I don't want to say it was awful, because I did have fun. But I was miserable. And add on top of that the whole time we were trying to pick out somewhere to live. Eventually we finally found a great home in Willard, but believe me I was done looking before we even started. During the week we also looked at a home that had a ton of dead worms in the basement, and you couldn't even see the garage through all the shelves they had put up in there. We all just laughed and laughed at that house.

Now we are back home and I feel a little better, I hoping to be done being sick for now. (Cross your fingers). Now we have to pack. I started packing up some stuff in our bedroom that I didn't think we would need between now and moving. I packed up two big boxes worth of all of our games. You don't think games are too heavy but Tyler weighed one of them on the scale and it was a neat sixty pounds. Yah, I don't think anyone is going to be pleased carrying those boxes around. But on the even heavier side, I can fit all of our exercise weights into one little box, which then weighs 106 pounds. What the heck am I supposed to do, should I distribute all the weights into our clothing boxes? I just don't know.

Anyways life goes on, and Levi has learned how to scream. I am pretty sure Gem had something to do with that. I have 16 days to put everything we own in boxes and get them down to the garage. I think I can do it, as long as I am not sick the entire time.
